TMO Highways take the safety of pedestrians just as seriously as the safe passing of motorists.
Over recent years pedestrian management has become more prevalent due to a number of high profile incidents which have seen contractors heavily fined.
We have always taken our duties seriously when it comes to ensuring pedestrians are kept out of harms way and have safe passage via temporary pedestrian crossing, walkways or diversions.
On every site we asses we ensure that we consider pedestrians as standard. At the time of engaging with us for our services you may have not even considered the impact on footway users. We take the worry and pressure off you and our team of experts will ensure that you will have no concerns over the safety of both motor uses and members of public on foot.
Temporary Pedestrian Crossings
We have a fleet of crossings which act and look very similar to the permanent ones used on our road networks.
Our temporary pedestrian crossings have the well known push button feature and illuminated visual WAIT visual display box, as well as the red and green person light. This clearly shows pedestrians when it is safe to cross.
These signals can be linked to our temporary traffic lights and the traffic signals will go red before the green person is displayed. This ensures a safe crossing point, allowing people on foot to navigate around your works if you are occupying a footway.
TMO have the ability to replace as many crossings as required to replicate existing traffic signal layouts which ensure pedestrians from all directions can safely get from point A to point B. Please get in touch for further information on how we can offer safe pedestrian solutions for you.
Pedestrian Walkways
These have been the most commonly used method over the years to allow pedestrians to quickly walk parallel to your works through a system of barriers and curb ramps.
If this method is deployed we ensure that the barrier is continuous prevent users walking into your work site. We also assess for the needs of curb ramps to ensure wheelchair and pushchair users have easy access off the curb and into the walkways. We provide a double barrier system which includes a tapping rail for those visually impaired users.
Our pedestrian barrier has specially designed feet with a large securing foot on the outside of the barrier but a smaller stabilising foot on the interior to further reduce the chance of trip hazards. By getting TMO to install your walkway you have peace of mind knowing the width of the walkway complies with the legal requirements.
Pedestrian Diversions
If we cannot facilitate a temporary crossing or walkway then we will plan, gain approval and install a full pedestrian diversion.
Much the same as a road closure, we shall fully sign a pedestrian diversion route from one end of your works to the other end using other footways, footpaths or existing crossings to ensure the pedestrians know exactly how they can get to their destination on foot safely.
Our skilled team of surveyors and planners will come up will route and draw a CAD plan to get local authority approval. This will enable your works to commence on time without the added risk or worry about pedestrians having to step out in a live carriageway.
For planned works we would install advance warning signs and carry our a letter drop to all impacted residents and commercial properties within the vicinity of the closure.
