A group of TMO volunteers swapped their usual day jobs for the great outdoors, spending the day at beautiful Knettishall Heath, Thetford, taking part in a Wild Work Day.
Across 2 days of hard work armed with tools and plenty of enthusiasm, we got stuck into scrub clearance, cutting and clearing self-seeded pine and birch. It was hard work, but all for a fantastic reason: helping to protect this special heathland habitat and giving its natural ecology and wildlife the space they need to flourish.
We rounded off the day with a guided walk and talk around the heath, learning more about some of the amazing trees and ponies that call it home, as well as hearing about the area’s fascinating history and the Bronze Age barrow burial mounds.
It was a brilliant opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, work together as a team, learn something new and make a real and visible difference to the local environment.
A huge thank you to Suffolk Wildlife Trust for facilitating such a fantastic day, sharing their knowledge with us and educating us about this very special habitat. And, of course, thank you to all our TMO volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in!
