At TMO Highways, we’re committed to finding practical ways to reduce our environmental impact while continuing to deliver first-class traffic management and event management services across the regions we operate.
As part of our environmental objectives for 2026/27, we set an ambitious target to save
12,000 miles of vehicle travel through staff car sharing between May 2026 and April 2027. By encouraging colleagues travelling to and from our offices to share journeys wherever possible, we’re reducing the number of vehicles on the road, lowering fuel consumption, and cutting carbon emissions.
We’re pleased to report that, just a few months into the programme, our team has already saved more than 3,400 miles of driving. This represents excellent progress towards our annual target and demonstrates the positive impact that small changes can make when everyone works together.
For a business involved in traffic management and event management, reducing unnecessary journeys aligns perfectly with our wider commitment to sustainable operations. Every mile saved not only helps reduce emissions but also contributes to less congestion on local roads and a more environmentally responsible way of working.
The success of the initiative reflects the enthusiasm of our staff, who have embraced car sharing as a simple yet effective way to support our environmental goals. With over 8,500 miles still to save before April 2027, we remain focused on building on this strong start and continuing to make a positive difference.
By working together, we’re not only helping the environment but also demonstrating that sustainable practices can be successfully integrated into everyday business operations. We look forward to tracking our progress throughout the year and sharing further updates as we move closer to our 12,000-mile target.
One of our most recent milestones was passing the 3,000-mile mark. To put that achievement into perspective, 3,000 miles is roughly the distance it takes to drive across the entire United States from coast to coast. It’s a remarkable comparison that really highlights the collective impact our staff are making through something as simple as sharing a journey to work!
