May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month a reminder that health and safety go far beyond hard hats and hi‑vis.
Our teams work outdoors every day, From setting up project works in London, to standing in the sun all day doing event management in Norfolk. Our teams are often out for long hours and in tough conditions. Sunshine is welcome, but prolonged UV exposure is a real occupational risk, and one we take seriously.
What we’re doing:
* Sunscreen stocked in all depots
* UV‑protective PPE designed for comfort and safety
* Clear messaging on application, hydration and early warning signs
* A culture that encourages self‑care as part of safe working
What we ask of our teams:
*Apply sunscreen regularly
* Wear PPE correctly
* Stay hydrated and seek shade when possible
* Pay attention to changes in skin and get checked early
This isn’t box‑ticking. It’s recognising UV exposure as a workplace hazard and managing it like any other.
At TMO, safety means genuinely valuing the people who keep the network moving. This month is a good moment to reflect on the hidden risks of working outdoors and the simple actions that protect lives.
