TMO Highways Go Green with the use of the latest Nissan Solar Powered Traffic Lights.

Here at TMO Highways we are fully committed to reducing our impact on the global climate situation. There’s plenty of greenwashing happening but we as an ISO:14001 environmentally accredited business are constantly on the lookout for ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Undertaking weekly routine battery changes and the mileage associated with this task is an area where the Traffic Management industry as a whole can make massive forwards strides by using Solar Technology.
On award of the contract we liaised with our client Bam Nuttall to obtain their approval for the use of the Solar lights. Being a like minded company they were fully on board with the Nissen Solar option. The lights have now been on site for 12 Weeks, fast approaching 3 months, not a single battery change or low voltage warning has been received.
Through the trackit247 tracker service provided by ITS we have been able to monitor the lights and the battery levels throughout the whole period and not once have they dropped below 12.7v, more often than not reading high 13v levels. With the latest @Nissen tech there have been zero breakdowns or communication fails during the period too. All of the above mentioned has led to a massive savings already and huge projected figures as detailed below:

- 611kg of Co2 saved
- £48.00 on electricity charging batteries back at our depot saved
- 912 Miles saved on Company vehicles carrying out battery changes
Prediction for the Duration of the Project (1 Year)
- 2,647.84kg of Co2 saved
- £208.00 on electricity charging batteries back at our depot saved
- 3,952 Miles saved on Company vehicles carrying out battery changes
The money we have been able to save both ourselves on fuel and wages and for the client in regards to battery changes have led to positive feedback all round. The Nissen LZA550 Solar lights are a game changer for the Traffic Management industry.
As an environmentally responsible company TMO will be looking to utilise the lights at every opportunity as this technology matches our promises to ensure all future purchasing assesses the latest innovative technology available or worst case has a clear recyclable factor at the end of the products life cycle
