Success in plastic recycling

This weekend saw our annual sort through of our broken bones to ensure they can be successfully recycled.

We have been collecting the cones, frames and bases for the past 12 months and come Monday (11th) these shall all be collected by Biffa and taken to be recycled.

The two skips pictured contain HDPE and PVC plastics and have all been checked to ensure that no contaminates have made their way into the skips. This is the second time we have recycled en-masse in regards to old cones and frames and it plays a huge part in our ISO14001 efforts.

We caught up with our new HSEQ Officer Ryan Smith who was present on Saturday during the quality checking stage.

Today’s efforts were extremely pleasing, the number of incorrect plastic types being put in the skips were relatively small in comparison to the vast volume within the skips. We would rather people put stuff in there even if they were unsure than just through it away in general waste. The sorting day is just a case of going through each item and ensuring that it is the correct type of plastic. We now look forwards to receiving the final weights from Biffa and adding them to our recycling data for the year.

Our commitment to getting the purchasing correct at the front end of the process allows us to ensure that products can be recycled at the back end. Having the ISO14001 certificate has really focussed our attention to ensuring we can maximise recycling wherever possible.

We would like to thank all our operatives, supervisors and managers who have player their parts in collecting the broken equipment up from our various traffic management setups across East Anglia,  The Midlands and London. We look forwards to collecting our next batch of recyclable equipment through 2024 and beyond.
