Yesterday saw our second trip down to Jimmy’s Farm in Wherstead and saw us drop over 100 old cones to help them with mental stimulation for some of their new arrivals.
Whilst we recycle a large percentage of our cones which are made from HDPE or PVC we do set aside some to support Jimmy and his team. Cones appear often on their wish list, from which people can purchase items for the farm and the animals.
Operations Director Ben Green is a regular at Jimmy’s Farm and spotted they had published their wish list again this week and noted that cones were on there, we had a skip full of cones booked to be picked up by Biffa which was actually probably overfilled, so out came 100 of them and they were whisked off down to near Ipswich by HSEQ Officer, Ryan Smith.
The cones are great for mental stimulation especially for their new arrivals, Ewa, Flocke & Tala the Polar Bears as well as Diego a European Brown Bear. These new arrivals have been largely made possible by public donations which reached over £60,000 and enabled Jimmy’s Farm to build Europes largest Polar Bear enclosure and save Ewa and Diego from a Zoo which had closed down in Sweden.
Jimmy’s Farm was born on an old dairy farm on the outskirts of Ipswich. Jimmy dreamt of a full restoration, returning the totally derelict farm back to a fully working, thriving livestock farm. His vision was to only use traditional, free-range farming methods with 100% traceability, rearing rare and domestic breeds from the UK. Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park is now an award winning wildlife park, rare breeds farm, restaurant and wedding venue based in the heart of Suffolk. It is home to world class facilities such as Europe’s largest polar bear reserve. From pigs to polar bears the park is a centre of excellence for British rare breeds as well as camels, primates, tapir and crocodiles amongst other animals. Jimmy’s vision and belief that the natural world should be accessible and available to all is an ongoing but hopeful, promising and encouraging mission.
