New Depot Loading in Eye

Safer, Faster, Smarter

We’re pleased to launch an improvement at the Eye depot that will make loading vehicles safer, quicker, and more efficient for everyone.

Following observations within the depot carried out collaboratively by the management team, supported by the insight and involvement of our trusted and valued operatives, we identified that our operatives were sometimes walking up to 40 yards carrying sandbags, frames, and cones often multiple times and while sharing space with other vehicles. This created unnecessary manual handling risk and slowed mobilisation, particularly for urgent and emergency work. This new process saves 16 minutes of loading, on average if people have 2x jobs a day that’s over 30 mins per day, per person or 2227 hours per year, not to mention the additional strain on our operatives bodies day in day out.

What’s changing?
We have introduced THREE dedicated loading bays, with equipment now located within 5 yards of vehicles. Vehicles can also be loaded from both sides, reducing carrying distance, double handling, and congestion.

What operatives are saying
“I think it’s brilliant – it’s made loading a lot more efficient and will more than likely reduce the time to get to emergencies.”
“Brilliant. Didn’t have to move the van at all to load – everything is where you need it.”
“Saved me at least 15 minutes loading time and a lot of effort, and it looks so much tidier.”

Why this matters
Reduced manual handling and physical strain.
Faster, more efficient vehicle loading.
Improved emergency response and mobilisation times.
A safer, more organised depot environment.

This improvement supports our commitment to assured & safe delivery, effective processes, and investing in better ways of working that make a real difference to day to day operations.
Over the coming months, we will be visiting all of our operational depots. Improving delivery times across all areas that we work in including Norfolk and SuffolkEssex and HertsBedfordshire and The MidlandsCambridge and Lincolnshire and London.

Thank you to everyone involved for your ongoing support, engagement, and commitment to making our workplaces safer and more efficient.
