Clever Technology

TMO Highways representatives have recently been meeting with members of various local councils for an on-site demonstration of the cutting-edge technology behind intelligent traffic light systems. The council members were highly impressed with the system’s ability to automatically adjust traffic light timings in real time, ensuring optimal traffic flow and reducing congestion.

Unlike traditional traffic management adjustment methods, which often require manual intervention with the presence of traffic personnel to monitor and adjust signal timings, these intelligent lights operate autonomously. By continuously analysing traffic patterns and responding dynamically to changing conditions, adjusting the light timings for each end of the works to keep traffic flowing efficiently.  They also eliminate the need for on-site personnel, reducing labour costs and minimizing human error. This also enhances safety by removing workers from potentially hazardous roadside environments, lowering the risk of accidents and ensuring a more seamless traffic management process.

Designed to function effectively in a wide range of traffic conditions, these intelligent signals are equally beneficial on quiet roads and heavily congested routes. By keeping traffic moving efficiently, they not only improve journey times but also contribute to lower emissions and increased road safety for all users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. With this advanced technology, local authorities can expect better managed traffic management, enhancing overall transport efficiency while prioritizing public safety.  We currently have a fleet of over 100 intelligent traffic lights covering the Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedfordshire, The Midlands, Cambridge & Lincolnshire, and London and the TFL network.  To find out more about how our intelligent lights could help your site run smoothly contact us now.

Welcome New Starters

Last week we welcomed three new starters within our 12D department.

Tyler (Eye Depot), Rui (Wisbech Depot) and Richard (Eye Depot) joined our ranks to get 2025 off to a positive start.

Our recruitment push at the end of 2024 drew a lot of interest with over 100 people applying for the three vacancies across the region. These trainees will now work alongside our existing staff to gain experience and begin to work towards their full qualifications. The past 12 months has seen an unprecedented amount of interest in engaging with TMO Highways for traffic management needs. The expansion of our serviceable area due to obtaining the St Neots depots has opened us up to a whole new geographical market.

We are currently interviewing candidates for our St Neots with the view to take on 2x more staff in February.

For over 10 years we have serviced Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire primarily but 2024 saw mass growth in the London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & The Midlands markets as well as new ventures into Scotland.

New Crafter vans arrive at TMOH

We have taken delivery of five new VW Crafter vans which will be put into immediate use on our 12AB High Speed fleet.

Thanks to Jed Saunders & Chatsbrook for the timely delivery of our new sparkly vans which our 12AB operatives will no doubt enjoy riding around in.

Fleet & Plant Manager Jamie Lange was delighted to take delivery and was impressed with the Crafters right from the initial viewing. Jamie said “These vehicles will allow us to release some of the previous 12AB vehicles back into the expanding 12D division which will enable us to continue using them without having to invest in new ones at this stage. The growth of the 12D division across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire in 2024 has kept me on my toes but I’m happy that we now have the additional vehicles to allow that growth to continue in early 2025.

ISO39001 Stage 2 just weeks away…

We are deep into the final stages of preparation for our upcoming ISO39001 stage two visit. So much focus within traffic management is safety with the worksite but what about all the 1000’s of journeys to and from work & sites each day.

We have set 10 key objectives which we have already started implementing which will no doubt have a positive impact on reducing the risk whilst driving for us here at TMO Traffic Highways Ltd.

Our Road Traffic Safety working group have done some amazing work in the last 8 months getting read for our BSI visit and hopefully come Dec 18th we will be in a position to announce our recommendation for certification.
